The blog era?

Writing stories in English on my blog has made me more interested in this type of platform, since I can read the stories of other people on the same topics that I wrote.

I think blogs are very successful way of telling stories, and in particular blogs in English seem very attractive to me. At best in Spanish they made me bored but in English they are quite entertaining, I think it is because of the challenge of writing in an ideioma that is not mine.I also believe that they are a very useful tool for learning English as they are more dynamic than conventional forms of learning.

Particularly the blogs we have done in this class have been very interesting to me, because we have touched on different themes with different degrees of difficulty. Also through them we have been able to show a critical look at different situations
My Indignation? My country.

My biggest indignation is the pussy behavior of Chilean people in the last fifty years, and I really mean it. The fact that people are a blind accomplice of many atrocities in our country for many years is unacceptable to me. Not only because nobody did anything to avoid them, but because it would be intrinsic to our culture accept with the head down mistreats and humiliations. We´re very proud of whom we are, of our heroes and our football, but nobody is proud of our bravery, because there is no bravery in Chile. Because even when our country returned to democracy, the president of the time said that “there was justice to the extent possible”.It´s so hard to find someone to admire, but I do not lose hope, I know that better generations will come, brave generations, Passionate generations, and an army of voices thinking outside the box and tell the mighty guys who control everything: fuck you all!

Carl Sagan: The scientific journalist who wasn´t a journalist

A good scientific journalist is capable to disseminate science to society in an easy and interesting way; this permit that people around the world knows many aspects of research and discover a lot of the answers related to some of most enigmatic questions. In a certain way, a scientific journalist has the responsibility of produce knowledge using their abilities of build a bridge between the “common society” and “scientific society”. In this note, I want to talk about Carl Sagan, the most important scientific journalist of our time that in fact wasn’t a journalist.

Carl was born on November 9, 1934, in Brooklyn and he graduated from the University of Chicago, where he studied planets and explored theories of extraterrestrial intelligence. He worked with NASA on several projects a he was a very important antinuclear activist. Many of their work were based in the relation of planets with the space-time inside the evolution theory, generated by Charles Darwin.

But Carl not only investigate in his lab and wrote many papers, He was in fact a true visionary and a true scientific journalist, prove to that, is the interested that he maintain in dissemination of science through his work with schools and TV. Sagan was the father of TV series “Cosmos” in 1980, which was reborn on TV in 2014 with one of their disciple, Neil Tyson. This program was so success that is considerate one of the most important pieces of science´s communication in history.

Carl Sagan death in 1996, and his legacy was tremendous, not only for the advance in his particularly area of astronomy, but also for their inclusion in science communication. Prove that, Carl is called the “Father of scientific journal”, even when he wasn´t received the title of this career. This teach us that sometimes a person not necessarily study something to be something.

Apolo and Luigie: My partners in crime ;)

I have the privilege of has two beautiful dogs in the house of my parents, located at the countryside of Santiago. They live there because I think that´s a evil thing to have dogs in apartments with reduced space. In that type of places dogs are not really free and they are conditioned to the time of their “owner” for any kind or natural necessity. But anyway, at least my dogs have very much space to run, to play and to be happy.

One of them is Apolo a labrator dog who came into our house in a very blue situation, he was abandoned for their old owner, and we received him very honored and happy. The other one is Luigi a beagle dog, and all I have to say about this little one, is that all the myths that’s rounds this kinds of dogs were true! Is an insatiable Tasmanian demon, with full energy and no sense of quiet. But for me is perfect that the way he is.

These guys bring me happy, hope, love and company, they help me to disconnect of all the city´s noise, that´s why I try to visit they every weekend. They love get up into my car and ride with me up to the hills and lakes around the house.

RADIKUAM: The Knowledge

This picture represents how the institution where I´m Studying takes responsibility of knowledge through investigation and construction of centers specialized in different areas of sciences. For me Radikuam book is a sign of social commitment and public education sense. But the thing that make me sad and disappoint is that Chile doesn´t know that thing likes this exist.  And then is when I ask myself, is the University of Chile doing their work?
With more than a docent of investigation centers, our University in the main producer of all scientific knowledge in the country, this means that all the new advances in medicine and health care staff in our society have a great influence of this institution above.
To some way or another, this fact express the commitment of this university for the social labor, and social health in deep.
But the main problem is that all this production of knowledge is not been received for the society, and people turned ignorance about this, so I think than a real commitment with public education is about correct diffusion of our labor also.
When our university be capable to diffusion all the knowledge to the society, they can said that the work is done. Until that happen, definitely not.

Write about your favourite piece of technology

For me technology is not a thing, is not a gun, is not a screen and is not a machine who works with electricity. For me Technology is a state of mind that conducts us, as a human race, to our earned destiny. Technology is related with the evolution of the species and -in that way- is a mechanism of survived. C. Darwin said, years ago, that the species created adaptive systems to dealing with the world. I say -in 2017- that this adaptive system -today- is call "technology".

Technology -today- is the natural selection of the human race, and if we look below the apparent of things, we realize that technology is the biggest mechanism of control. After all, I wrote this text in a computer, so yes, I’m a slave too. Finally, I would like to say that my favorite piece of technology is humans.

WHY DID YOU CHOOSE THIS CAREER/STUDY PROGRAMME?

This is a very difficult question to me, first it all, because I was considered myself as a scientific, so in that note, I could say that I’m a stranger in this “humanistic world”.

But if I have to attribute to something the fact that I´m here today -in my last course of journalism program- I must say that maybe destiny do her thing and my mission was convert myself in a science divulgator. This, at same time, was help me to realize my role in this professional life, and thank to that, build my own agency in science communications.

Also I´ve discovered a very interest thing in journalism, like communication´s research, the area that I love most. For me journalism is a constantly research of human conduct, expressed in the way of we communicated.

¡More communication´s research and less journalists! That´s my consign.

My life in a very very few words.

My name is Patricio Grunert a journalist promise that is dedicated to the dissemination of science. I was born in Santiago on september 17 in 1992. Since I was little I was interested in nature and communication, that´s why today in 2017 I´m very happy to have created my own agency of science´ communications.

Little Eric.

Once upon a time there was a cruise on the ocean. Unexpectedly, it suffered an accident in the middle of Atlantic, and there was only one survivor, the little Eric. He got stucked on a deserted island for 10 years and the only thing he was missing from the civilization was Mexican food. Luckily, one day he noticed a bottle coming from the sea and it had a note inside, immediately he opened the bottle, took out the note and found a message. He felt hopeful about the Free Tacos promo, but as soon as he read the small letter, he started to cry out because he realized he was ruined without tacos or tequila. That’s why he broke the bottle, cutted his veins and drank his own blood. He wished he was dead.
